We have set an aggressive goal of standing
ONE MILLION STRONG for ONE MILLION JOBS.
This May, as over 4.5 million Americans graduate from high school and college, they will enter a world with record unemployment. It’s time to speak out – sign our petition telling the presidential candidates to support a measure creating one million youth service jobs in areas of national need such as nursing, teaching, technology, green jobs and more! With one million of our voices united, we will be too loud to ignore.

Recent studies indicate that our age group suffers more from stress than other age group. The most effective way to get rid of our stress is by attacking the cause — which are clearly jobs and debt. If you agree, LIKE this post and help spread awareness of both the problem and the solution!

Tuition rates have gone up dramatically during the past three decades. One of the major reasons for this has been the withdrawal of state and local funding. Education should be a priority, not a privilege… LIKE this if you agree, and tell us your student loan stories.

In the past two years alone, over ONE MILLION AmeriCorps applications have been rejected. Why? There isn’t enough federal funding to put all of these applicants to work.
Youth unemployment is so horrible in this country that young people can’t even get jobs that would put them on food stamps. Something is backwards…
Ok, there are officially one million young Americans who are screaming out “I WANT TO WORK AND YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TO PAY ME THAT MUCH!” (Most AmeriCorps members the poverty line salaries.) Our country needs teachers, volunteers, etc. There is a void in the market, and ta-da! Here are people willing to work.

Last Monday, President Obama released his 2013 Budget Proposal to students at Northern Virginia Community College.
Obama discussed making education more affordable by pressuring colleges to keep their costs down in order to be eligible for federal grant money.
He also announced an $8 billion dollar fund to train two million new workers in health care, transportation, IT, and advanced manufacturing in partnership with community colleges.
These initiatives will be funded by an increased tax on the wealthiest Americans.
College tuition costs are skyrocketing each year and roughly 1 in 6 young Americans is out of work. With major student loan debt and difficulty finding jobs, it is becoming increasingly difficult to become financially independent.
Encouraging a lower cost of education as well as increased job training at community colleges is a good step in the right direction. OUR TIME specifically supports a national youth corps to provide “mission critical” jobs to every young person who wants to work and needs one.

Because financial independence is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain,
young Americans are increasingly delayed in their ability to buy homes, buy
cars, get married, or start a family. This has long lasting implications on overall
economic growth, the housing market, the auto market, as well as other private
sector businesses that depend on marriages and childcare in their business models.
The sooner we solve our jobs crisis, the sooner young Americans will have money
in their pockets to begin their adult lives.

The US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has declared Proposition 8—which effectively banned same-sex marriage—unconstitutional.
The case is expected to be appealed (again) to the US Supreme Court.
The court noted, “Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California.”
Studies show that 64% of young Americans favor same-sex marriage.
Young people were enthusiastically against Prop 8 when it came time to vote in
2008. 61% of 18-29 year olds voted against it.
Same-sex marriage promises to be a top ballot issue in 2012 as well as in future
elections and of all age groups, young Americans are uniquely supportive of
it.
