President Obama is speaking live now and called on Congress to stop student loan rates from doubling on July 1st. If the rates double, millions of effected students will have to pay an extra $1000.  He also said that colleges that don’t do enough to keep college cost down should get less taxpayer support. Yesterday, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill regulating the recreational use of marijuana, including blood-level limits for motorists and proposed sales taxes. 

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel plans to close 50 of the city’s public schools, affecting around 30,000 students in the city’s poorest areas due to budget shortfalls. Mayor Emanuel has also announced a plan to build a new basketball arena with $55 million in taxpayer funds with the argument that it will generate funding for the city.  LIKE if funding should go to public schools over sports programs, REBLOG if you support Mayor Emanuel’s decision.

California released their health insurance prices in accordance with Obamacare laws and the costs are lower than expected. For young Californians, a plan with 60% insurance coverage will cost between $142 and $190 per month, or less depending on your income.
